ABOUT ME
I’m a graphic designer based in New York City with a love of book jacket design and working with images and text.
I’m also a publicist (dba Popular Publicity), Marketing and Public Relations Manager and graphic designer for B&H Dairy Kosher Vegetarian Restaurant, Director of Public Relations & Grants for The Loyalty Foundation, and the owner of Etsy shop, The Tee Service.
I live in the East Village, maintain a curated vinyl record collection of questionable taste but undeniably brilliant cover art, and enjoy reading contemporary and classic literature, biographies, science fiction, and graphically stunning style magazines (hello, Fantastic Man).
I’m currently exploring blowing up my street photography series (Palimpsest) to be sold as prints and developing home accessories (some of which you can see in my Etsy shop, along with designs for 170+ products.)
Favorites include, in no particular order: authors Edmund White, Iain M. Banks, Gary Indiana, Ray Bradbury, Philip K. Dick, Patti Smith, Hanya Yanagihara, David Sedaris, Truman Capote, and Duc de Saint-Simon (see the covers of books I've read here); musicians Cesária Évora, João Gilberto, Dave Brubeck, Derrick May, Róisín Murphy, Grace Jones, and Intergalactic FM; artists Robert Motherwell, Dale Chihuly, Mark Rothko, Massimo Vignelli; designers Rick Owens and Walter Van Beirendonck; and New York locations Crystal Gardens, John Derian, Washington Square Park, Central Park, The Odeon, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, the Union Square Greenmarket—and, believe it or not, the subway.
APPROACH / HOW I WORK – BOOK DESIGN
My approach really starts with yours. I encourage you to review the book covers on the Book Cover Design page—as well as the Selected Work page—to be sure the design sensibility feels aligned with your taste and goals.
Once you’ve toured my work, I’m happy to talk about your book or project and what you need the design to accomplish, both functionally and editorially.
For books, I typically ask to see the full manuscript, or a few chapters if the work is still in progress. In some cases, I may also suggest an interview—by video or in person—to talk not only about the book, but about you: your preferences, influences, and how you respond to design.
Clear, frank communication from the start is essential. Once we’re aligned, I’ll present a small number of focused concepts, each grounded in a clear idea rather than a wide range of stylistic options. The goal is a cover that clicks—one that speaks to its intended audience and feels right for the project.
I work closely with authors, editors, and publishers to refine the design until it’s fully resolved, and then move into production.
I’m always happy to talk early in the process, even if the manuscript isn’t final.
